The Power of Poetry – Wondering Poet Documentary
Students at All Saints recently enjoyed an exciting opportunity through the Wondering Poet incursion, facilitated by Sarah Hall.
Across Wednesday and Thursday, our 7S English class took part in a dynamic program designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and develop self-expression through spoken word poetry. The Wondering Poet program, an initiative of the Melbourne Public Humanities Partnership at the University of Melbourne, introduces students to the art of performance poetry.
It particularly highlights how young people in regional areas can share their ideas, experiences, and perspectives in meaningful and powerful ways. As part of this experience, students had the opportunity to use their voices to craft and perform original pieces, exploring themes that matter to them. Their enthusiasm and willingness to engage showcased the strength of student voice within our community.
Following the success of the incursion, All Saints has been invited to be part of an exciting new project. A short documentary (5–10 minutes) will be developed in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, shining a light on the power of poetry and the impact of spoken word among young people in regional communities.
The documentary will feature students from our school and highlight how they express their ideas and experiences through performance. This film may be shared across University platforms, as well as at school and community events and online, providing a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and insight of our students with a wider audience. We look forward to seeing our students’ voices continue to grow and resonate through this inspiring initiative.
