Junior School (Prep-Year 4)

Our Head of Junior School, Karen Kelly, works closely with teachers, families, and students to ensure every child feels known, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Welcome to our Junior school — a nurturing and inspiring environment where children begin their formal learning journey. We focus on developing the whole child — academically, socially, and emotionally — through a structured, developmental approach that grows with them.

Developmental Approach to Learning

Our Junior School is divided into three key stages:

  • Prep
The foundational year where children are gently introduced to school routines, expectations, and independence. A strong transition program in the year before they join us — including Term 4 sessions and a formal orientation day — helps children move confidently from kindergarten to school.
  • Years 1 and 2
Focused on recognising and nurturing each child’s unique strengths and learning style. Teachers provide targeted support to build confidence and a love of learning.
  • Years 3 and 4
Designed to empower students as independent thinkers. We encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and self-directed learning to prepare them for the next stage of education.

Across all year levels, we foster curiosity, independence, and critical thinking in every child.

Strong Foundations in Literacy and Learning Support

We follow the Science of Reading, using explicit phonics instruction to build strong literacy skills. Students needing additional support benefit from targeted intervention programs such as MiniLit and MacqLit, along with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings.

Pastoral Care and Connection

Pastoral care is at the heart of our Junior School. Teachers build strong, trusting relationships with students, creating safe and supportive classrooms. Emotional awareness, resilience, and positive relationships are integrated into daily learning.

Community and Belonging

  • Weekly Chapel Services bring students together to sing, reflect, and celebrate shared values.
  • The Prep-Year 6 Buddy Program fosters friendships and mentorship through reading and craft activities.
  • Students participate in school productions, musical theatre, and choir, building confidence and creativity.
  • whole-school assembly is held fortnightly to celebrate achievements and share important messages.
