National Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a significant time in Australia’s calendar—a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and consider the role each of us can play in fostering reconciliation.

The theme for 2025, “Bridging Now to Next,” invites us to reflect on the progress we have made, whilst also looking ahead to the future we want to build together. It reminds us that reconciliation is a continuous journey—one that connects the steps we take today to the change we hope to see tomorrow.

To begin the week of reflection and learning, the two School Captains and Principal, Mr Laussen attended the National Sorry Day Commemoration on Monday 26 May in Monash Park. They paused to remember and honour the Stolen Generations and acknowledge the deep and lasting impacts of past government policies that caused immense pain and suffering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities.

Representative students from all local secondary schools led the ceremony; including our captains Armaandeep and Chloe who spoke beautifully.  On Thursday, our whole school gathered for a special outdoor Chapel service to mark Reconciliation Week. Together, we reflected on what it means to walk alongside First Nations people with understanding, respect, and a commitment to truth and justice.

A special item by 1F was part of the service. As a school, we are proud to be part of the national journey of reconciliation—bridging now to next, with open hearts and open minds. AngliSchools has published a reconciliation action plan that is the framework for implementing last change in all 16 schools in our system.
